Auto Seat Belts and cold weather

Post by skoobywrx »

The cold weather lately has been causing my automatic seat belts to act more and more erratic.

The auto belts wont go back into position until the car warms up a bit. Is this the switch in the door itself? or something else?

I hate  these belts!!!

I think it is more likely that the cable that runs the length of the rail is cold enough that it is sticking. I've used WD40 to lube mine a couple of times, I think WD40 is resistant to cold temperatures as far as thickening or freezing and works well but smells funny for a few days. There is probably some other treatment prescribed by Subaru, but I have never explored such a possibility. Anyone else know?

White lithium grease is probably better and doesn't smell as bad as WD-40. I don't like WD-40 and don't use it for anything. Smells terrible and there's better lubricants that last longer.

On another note, did you know that the main ingredient in WD-40 is fish oil?
