I'm helping a buddy that has a good EJ22 (heads done, etc etc) in his crappy rusty auto wagon, and has made a deal on a 00' 5-sp RS (SOHC 2.5) with a hole in the block.
Ideally getting a replacement 2.5 is what he'd like, but for the time being swapping in the 2.2 as a temp measure would be great.
Did a bunch of searching and found bits to look for with guys going the other way. (2.5's into the early Legacy's)
Can anyone advise if it'd be possible to just swap the 2.5 TB onto the EJ22, remove the IAC off the TB, block the port, and wire it up to the 2.2 IAC on the intake? I believe we'd need to block off the EGR stuff as well in the RS.
Does that cover it? It'd be easier to swap intakes like I first hoped - but it looks like that doesn't work.
Any advice is most appreciated.

You're going to run into issues with the ECU. You need to keep the 00 ECU as it is OBD2, and the one from the Legacy is not and if there's an annual inspection, it's not going to pass.
For all the things you would have to do to jimmy rig it to work, It'd be worth it to keep searching for a 2.5 replacement.

Yeah - after running all the scenarios it just makes sense to find a 2.5 to replace it with. Trouble is finding a decent 2.5 to swap. Local wrecker said all he has are cores that are either had broken T-belts or they had rods through the blocks. Might be worth getting a t-belt core engine, but the since the rod went on this we're not sure if it has head damage. (If the piston smacked the head when it went since it happened at highway speed.)
JDM WRX engine swap might be the alternative. Seems to be the way to go if doing all the work anyway - and the swap looks fairly well documented. Also seems easy to get them.
Still checking out options though.
BTW Josh - impressed as hell you're still contributing like you are. That's some seriously dedicatied brand loyalty! I sold my Legacy a couple years ago, but I still love Subies.

Thanks for the comments Rabin. It's solely a project car at this point
. I've got too much tied up into it, and I do enjoy modifying stuff to fit these cars since very little is plug & play.
