Will 1992 turbo injectors work in a 1992 N/A?

Post by himynameisnick3 »

i'm new to this forum and im glad i finally found a forum dedicated to old legacy's! :D

anyways, i have short ram intake and bog down like crazy if i try to step on it. i also cant let the rpm's go below 2,500 with out shaking me to death. i asked a mechanic at my work whats the deal because im also only getting about 20mpg HIGHWAY and 16 CITY. he said its most likely the injectors.

i found some aftermarket venom injectors that are cheaper than oem but they say they are for a turbo.

just wondering if they'd work in my n/a

here's the url to them:

thanks!

just get someone to sell you a lower mileage set. Run a napa procleen or some good fuel injector cleaner in them. Have you verified you have good fuel pressure? Does it do it with the stock air box assembly?

Just get one injector to replace the one that is bad. You don't need to replace all of them. If your mechanic tells you otherwise, go somewhere else.

First of all, welcome to Legacy Central!

You may want to check this and other threads: http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=35236

While there isn't yet conclusive proof as to why the bogging occurs with a short intake on a first generation Legacy NA engine, it does happen. Soul Shinobi in the link above tells what needs to be done to eliminate much or all of that bogging (of course, if your injectors are bad, fixing the intake by itself won't cure the problem).

In that same thread above, the link to a NASIOC thread goes into more detail and even though it specifically targets the second generation Legacy NA engines, the same principles seem to work on the first generation NA Legacy engines.

i mean after doing some reading it sounds like the intake it just creating problems and make me kinda want to just put my stock air box on..

but if it just the intake why would my gas milage be so horrible? i mean even if i drive like a granny i get 22mpg at best! :(

hmmm... i think i need to go bother the mast mechanic at the dealership and see if he thinks its really the injectors..

If the motor is really rough at low rpm's, it could be a bad injector. One injector, not all of them. Do not replace all of them, as it is a waste of money. This happened on my '90 Legacy, and a little work with a multimeter found the bad injector.

I'm sorry if I led you to believe that just the intake was causing you the problems. Since the other guys have been addressing the injector issue as a possible cause, I wanted to give you some information regarding the short ram intake that likely is adding to the already existing issue(s).

Do you work at a Subaru dealership?

ok sorry i havent updated anyone for awhile, my comp crashed and yada yada yada..
anyways,
fixed the problem and all i did was get a grounding kit, it took away ALL the hesitation and bogging down that i have been having

still gettin not so great gas mileage, but i'll figure that out soon. maybe spark plugs or something

what would be some good spark plugs because i got bosch ones a couple years ago and they suck lol

anyways thanks for all your guys's help!!!! :)
