Wierd Issue with passenger side auto seatbelt
Hey guys I've got a really wierd problem. I did some searching and found the forum on how to check the codes and what-not, but the seatbelt light is not on or flashing.
The issue is, when the door is shut the seatbelt retracts as it should towards the rear of the car. Once it is in that position, whether the car is on or off, the seatbelt budges forward (maybe 1/4" or so), and then jolts back. It does this VERY often, i would say every minute or so. This is with the door closed, and it doesn't matter if the car is on or off. It almost seems as if it is trying to go back forward as if the door were open but it was off of the track or something, but the door is closed, and its obviously on the track just fine if it works just fine when I open/close the door. This has caused to drain my battery overnight, which is a huge PITA as you can imagine.
I'm really stuck on this. I've never heard of anything like it or had to deal with the seatbelts at all on these cars. If anyone know what the problem could be, I would be very grateful for any advice.
Thanks,
Matt

I would be curious if the dome light flashes on and off also. If it does I would think there is an issue with the door switch.

I can definately try that, I know that my driver's side switch thing is bad because the "button" that it pushes is missing and I just keep forgetting to get one when I go to the junkyard. That is the other side though so ya, I will definately give that a try asap in the morning and give an update.

The dome light switch and auto seat belt latch/switch are different.
Sounds like a limit switch may be tweaking out.

Here's some of the wiring diagrams and diagnostic info, which may help.

now, neither of them work whatso ever. Will not go back or forth while opening or shutting the door. I think im gonna go get that control box from the junkyard, im sure its super cheap. If that doesnt fix it i will check the codes which seems really fun

I have a 93, and my driver side seatbelt has stopped working...most of the time.
It always will go forward to let me out, but often times it won't come back to "seat belt me in."
Is this an issue with the auto belt control box in the trunk? And if so, any recommendations of where to find one? None of the junkyards in my area have any of these cars.
If it is not the control box, is there a way to unplug the motor? It would be inconvienient, but I would rather be able to buckle both the lap and the shoulder belts, than have the shoulder belt every once and a while.
Any help would be much appreciated!

you can disconnect the power to the motor. If you pull the trim panel at teh bottom of the door post, then snap off the door post cover the motor and wiring will be accessable.
I know on my wagon when it would extend out but not retract it was a bad switch in the door latch assy (the bearclaw latch). That's where it gets the signal the door is closed. Swapped the latch assy out and has been good every since.
If it doesn't extend to let you out or has problems both ways I'd suspect the controller.
