Bigger valves for EJ20G

Post by H4_Deucer »

So I have a 1990 Legacy N/A 2.2 that I got for a pretty good deal. I want to eventually build a turbo motor to drop into it and have started to collect some parts. I want to stick with older JDM turbo heads, but I am thinking of increasing the valve size in the heads. The only problem I have is that I can only find performance valves for the ej205 and ej257. Does anyone know if I can fit these valves into say, an ej20g or ej20h? If they do fit, does anyone know if they possibly fit into the ej22t head if I go that route instead? Or if anyone knows of where to get valves for said heads?

Valves are kind of universial. The have a stem diameter and length, and a head diameter.

If you can find valves that are close to what you want, any good engine machine shop can make them work......for a price, of course. Larger valves involve machine work to fit anyways, so the extra work for custom ones should be minimal.

As far as drop-in replacements? I'm not sure about EJ20G, but I'm fairly certain that you will not find EJ22T valves. I would look into older JDM suppliers catalogs as those motors never officially came North America.

Well I know I have to have machine work done to the valve seats to get oversized valves to fit in the heads. I was just wondering if all other dimensions of the valves were the same, as in the stem length and diameter. I know that if the diameter was the same and just the stem length was differant that I could just have them machine the length, but I am not sure if the valves for ej257 motors are sodium filled or not. I dont believe they are, but at the same time I dont want to order a custom $150 set of valves, just to find out they wont work.
