Clutch pedal problem

Hello!

I drive 1991 Legacy SS EJ20G engine..... ever since i bought it, 2 months ago, i had a problem with clutch pedal.... under acceleration, pedal would sink, and stay down untill i pop it back up with my leg... clutch was bad and i was told that problem will disappear when i replace the clutch... BUT.... same thing with clutch pedal would happen on heavy braking, so, while some significant pressure is applied to the brake, clutch pedal would sink, but clutch works....

So, today i picked up the car from shop where new clutch kit and new flywheel was installed.... and guess what... problem stays.... pedal sinks on acceleration, and on braking....

I know that fluid both in brakes and clutch hydraulics is probably old and i will change it.... but i also know that systems are separate..... And im really confused about whole thing....

Could it maybe be some vacuum issue or something? Please help because it drives me crazy.

EDIT:

I forgot to mention that i tried to press brake hard when stopped in neutral, and then press clutch pedal too.... and then it doesnt sink..?

Honestly......that's just bizzare....

I'm assuming your car does NOT have the hill holder on it.....correct?

I'd probably start with the clutch master & slave cylinders....

theres probably tiny unicorns is your clutch lines, seriously dude that is bizarre. id think it was some kind of vacuum issue

Its 19 years old and its manual... they didnt even invent hills back then :-D

Also i tought it might be something with pedals itself but then it would happen when stopped too.... I have a feeling that its even worse now (when braking) then before clutch was changed....

If its a vacuum issue, it could only be some of the lines that go to the reservoir, right?

I don't see how vacuum lines could affect the clutch pedal.....they are completely different systems.....that's what's so bizzare!

does sounds very similar.
Is the pedal spongy or does it sink?
If not, I'd flush/bleed the clutch hydraulics and adjust the pedal, then see how it feels.

Well.. couldnt say its spongy... it just goes down like nothing lol... and sticks there... I will flush and bleed it tommorow and see if it will make any difference.... thank You for advice

2 Legacy777: about vacuum, so clutch and brakes dont share the same vacuum "reservoir"? Just asking, now im pretty sure its not about vacuum...

no vacuum assist on the clutch, your left foot does all the work. Clutch and pedal return spring hold the pedal up. I can't believe a shop didn't try to figure that issue out.

There was mention of pedal swing assembly bushings stickiing in one of these threads, might check that too. Or, disconect the master from the pedal assy like your gonna adjust it and see how the movement feels. Rough, stiff, sticky? Should travel freely with no resistance.

I did flush and bleed today, and then tried, didnt quite help... after that, i simply adjusted free play on clutch pedal and its ok now :) tnx for help!

If the problem persists, check out a new pedal assembly. I've had intermittent clutch issues for a while now. I've completely bleed the clutch, changed out the master cylinder and the slave cylinder (multiple times). I even got rid of the secondary bleed point to make the system simpler. I always made it better but not perfect. Last night I changed out the pedal assembly and the clutch feels brand new, and better than it ever has.

My problem was the clutched worked fine, but under heavy acceleration, sometimes it would feel like I didn't fully disengage the clutch. Also, like you, it wouldn't always come all the way up, but I felt that was more of a spring issue than an "air - in - the - lines" issue. Turns out I was right. I don't know what the problem was exactly, only that the design of the two pedal assemblies was different. My old one had a nut on the end of the rod that rotates for adjustment or something, and it was a major pita to replace.

Anyways YMMV, but hopefully you've figured it out.
