Turbo Dust Covers

Post by kimokalihi »

Not sure what they're called but I'd like to get some of those nice plastic covers that go on your turbo to keep the dust and debris out of it while it's not installed in the car. I don't have plans of using this TD05-18g for a while and it's going to be sitting in my room and currently on the floor next to my desk so I'd like to avoid getting anything inside of it.

I searched here and on the interwebz on google and found nothing. Even ebay but I think I'm calling it the wrong thing. I know the turbo rebuilder places always ship your turbo back with these covers on them so where can I get some that'll fit my turbo?

Also, do they make them for the exhaust housing side too?

I guess I could always just tape it up but I'd rather have the nice plastic lids.

Just stuff a rag in both ends.

I just use a rag on the inlet side with a rubber band to secure it. I just stuff a rag into the exhaust inlet, I leave the outlet open but I do put it in a box. You might be able to find a small tupperware lid to fit on it. If your really that worried about it I would contact a turbo vendor like Deadbolt.

It is best to keep your hole coverings outside of the system. There is a small chance that you could not notice something inside a hole and install the piece. I know none of us would do that though.

i cover the openings with wide masking tape then go along with a razor blade and trim the excess off nice and neat to the edge, works great,no need to be buying shit here.

I forgot to mention I use RED rags so they are easy to spot. Always check the ports on a turbo before you install one, I figured this was a given. When I bought a TD-04 a couple years ago the dude that shipped it didn't cap off any ports and shipped it with packing peanuts inside the box  , what a dumbass. It took awhile to get all those peanuts out of the turbo!

Yup....blue painters tape works well and doesn't leave residue.
