Removing rear cross member

Post by drsevy »

95 legacy L wagon failed inspection today due to rusted rear cross member. Everything else is great since I replaced rotors, calipers, and exhaust :) Don't want to trash car yet.

Any links to replacing out the rear cross member ?

Is it easier just to drop the whole rear and then swap out the cross member ?

Also, what years will work for this swap - outback ?

Thanks

You'll have to drop the rear diff, and remove the lateral links, and I think that should be it. You could do it in a couple hours.

Any of the 90-99 Legacy & 93-01 Impreza rear crossmembers "should" work.

Also the FWD & AWD rear crossmembers are different. Just an FYI.

Forgot about the rear diff mount being different. Jamal mentioned that in your other thread. You'll need to match that with rear crossmember.
