info on early wrx/STi seats??

Post by farfrumwork »

My stock drivers seat is worked. The PO was, well, bigger than me (weight wise) and the thing is flat...

I figured I could upgrade while replacing. I found these over on Nabisco, (they are sold but serve as a good reference).
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthr ... ight=seats

I "think" these are the same as the V2, V3 STi seats but with different, less flashy, fabric. Can anyone confirm?

I also remember reading that the V2 -V4 STi seats sit the lowest of all bolt-in OEM's - is that correct?

And can anyone that has had any early JDM seats chime in on the seat height?

I'm sure they are all WAY better than the SS seats for support, but I am 6'2" and I don't want to be against the headliner.
I also like the idea of the early wrx/STi seats not having things I can't use (airbags, heaters, etc...) that would just add weight.

Thanks for any input!

Depending on the answer you get, you might want to consider restuffing the original seats. I think there was a thread about it years ago.

ALL of the JDM WRX/STI seats bolster wise are the same. Only the fabric is different.
AND the fabric is GLUED to the seat foam.

As far as sitting low, our seats are the lowest yu can get. The JDM seats would be the next best. ( they sit a tad lower than the RS seats)

I like those seats. They look much more durable than the WRX seats I have.

The JDM seats would have the levers on the wrong side! But other than that I'd say flippin sweet!

The levers will be on the correct side. If the "driver's" seat has any extra crap, that will now be on the pass side :)

Thanks all.

Re-stuffing stock seats - I could do that, or pick up some better condition stock seats (cheapest route, and the way it may play out), but I figured I'd just follow my normal course of action and upgrade when replacing. The stockers leave MUCH to be desired when making my way down twisty mnt roads.

I like the newer age wrx seats a lot (the ~05 or so that are have the 1piece back/headrest) but they would definietly require modification to lower (like Kleinkid did to his), and they have airbags and whatnot...

I know Matt Monson has some early wrx seats in his SS a few years ago, so I'll PM/email him too.

air bags

The air bags were not an issue. I just removed them and gave them to a Subaru recycler.

I didn't even remove them. Just left them unplugged (obviously), in case I ever want to sell them. Dunno why I would, but just in case haha

Yeah I wouldn't remove them as they are part of the seat. Just leave them alone.

Yeah, I'm not 'worried' about the airbags (I would just leave them most likely), it's just more weight for something that is useless in the car.

I'll probably just get whatever pops up 1st (early jdm/maybe edm? OR ~'05 wrx) for a good price and make it work.

I need some sort of tuning before the seats anyhow, so I have some time.

i have some gc8 tiger strip seats for sale and where in my car. they worked great and bolted right in. the seat is perfect height. feels like the same height as stock. they def. hold you in the seat way better and it feels good.
