Best overall performace turbo???

Post by Tommio RS »

Hi there! I have been doing some crazy amount of research about what turbo i want to run. I have reduced the number down to three.

VF39
TD05-16G
TD04L 19T Compressor Upgraded.

The VF39 is good overall but i have driven in countless STi's and they kick in tooo late compared to my VF11. Which is why i dunno what to say about the TD05 seeing that is bigger. The TD05 would have nice top end but have like Zero bottem end... So the VF39 is a mix kinda.
Now for the TD04. I found on the blouch site that they can make this little turbo crank out 310HP around??? That friggen NUTS! its like a VF11 but with mucho more power and probably the same spool!

Link to Blouch:

Im only after around 275-300 whp but have good driveability.

People any thoughts would be great!
I have been looking for just the right turbo for years!! and the revtronix chips are getting really REALLY juicy!
I can hardly hold back!

HELP!

Thanks!

look up the hta68 - there's a thread on nasioc here:

If I had some money to spend on a turbo, that'd be the one I'd get for the ej22t.

That power goal isn't going to happen with a turbo that will spool like you want it to. Josh's car is in the 240's whp wise with the 16G.

A larger turbo merely shifts your power band to the right. It might not spool as fast, but the car won't fall on it's face up top as bad. You still end up with more usable power.

So a 16G can make 240hp... Hmm to get to the 275 mark i need bigger than a TD05-16G.

All i know is that the VF39 and TD05-16G have nearly the exact same size compressor housing. People with STi's can get 250-280whp with some tuning.

Well in saying that. Is there a turbo the kicks in a lowish rpms?

I dunno what to say here.
I love fast spool. I like nice power. I dont think there is a happy middle for the equation.

With the right supporting mods, yes it should be able to. As Dan mentioned, you'll need a larger turbo to support anything above that to the wheels.

Check out the dyno plots I posted in the misc forum. Between the heads and turbo, the power drops off at the higher rpms.

The STi's can make what they make because they also have better heads, TGV's, etc...

Keep in mind the STi has a larger motor, higher flowing heads, more aggressive camshafts, and higher compression.

They have higher compression them STi's??? I thought they were 8.5.1.

They legacy turbo is 8.5.1. Or am i wrong?

and yes to everything about the sti.

This has not come across me but do i need to swap my stock recirculation valve?? or is it still good for a higher boost application.

Stock SS motor should be 8.0:1. STi is at 8.2:1. Minimal, but it is what it is.
