BOV limits

Post by The big weave »

Looking to do some upgrading, what is the stock BOV good to for boost levels, before it starts leaking?

As RJ said, about 16 PSI. Anymore than that and they tend to crack.

The plastic externally or internally cracks? The sign of a faulty BPV is?

Internally.

When you get into boost but it doesn't hold, so you swap out the BPV with a different one and you're able to hold boost. Lol.

Alright, that being the case, shouldn't a lot of us with the revtronix stage 2 chip have this occurring? Or are a lot of you running aftermarket BPV/BOV ?

I'm running an HKS. I'm not saying that it won't hold at all, it's just how long it will work for at that pressure.

i ran mine ofr a month but only at stage 1. It doesn't take much for a plastic unit to leak. neither my blitz or my hks leak at stage 1.5

Hmm, wonder if mine is starting to leak... noticed lately is more noisy while on boost (air noise), but my boost during WOT seems solid enough.

I am wondering if mine is leaking now too. I took it off awhile ago and i could BARELY blow through it like at all, I know your not supposed to be able to "at all", but there was a "tiny" leak, but I had no issues with boost. A few months later and here I am. Once i get into the higher RPMs, it will drop 3-4 psi before shifting, sound like a leaking BPV to anyone else?

I know that my02+ WRX units handle high pressures in stock form and even more when crushed in a vice. Its not hard to find adapters that make a flange on the inlet side and these units are very easy to find used.

I have blown up quite a few stock BPV, even running 12-13psi for an extended amount time.

whats a good BPV to replace the stock one?

Mine leaks bad and I cant find any good used ones anymore.

Looking for something that will last longer and take higher boost (10+psi) and for a good price

what about this? Legit or not? http://www.siliconeintakes.com/product_ ... a09d4ae070

This is a great topic and I've been wondering about BOV limits myself recently. From my understanding(which is not always 100% spot on) the BOV/BPV serves two main puposes, staying shut to hold boost and opening quickly to keep the boost from backing up into the turbo.

When does the stock BPV inlet/outlet size become a limit for proper venting? Does this become a bigger concern with higher boost or when you increase the intercooler volume(FMIC), or a combination of the two.

I picked up a VW aluminum one on Ebay. It works very well, although the dia. is larger than stock, so hoses need to be adapted to work with it.
