fitting/nipple on top of the block where does it connect to?

Hey everyone i would just like to know if anyone knows what this nipple is for circled in red. ive looked in my books and found nothing on it..i was almost positive it was for emissions..i think that its a breather but im not sure! can anyone help please

It's part of the PCV system. There is a plastic pipe that connects that fitting to the extra fittings on the valve covers and ties them all together.
