The Radio Flyer lives again!! - Now with Pictures!

Post by skid542 »

Well it's been a long winter and I haven't been near as productive out in the garage as I would have liked due being consumed by things such as skiing, hanging out, etc.

But....

Tonight I sucessefully got the Radio Flyer up and running again. She's still got a few bugs that need worked through - tachometer isn't reading and the turn signals don't work and the speedo still needs a new cable.

But after a complete tranny break-down, engine swap, turbo swap, etc. she does run and seems to run well. I didn't take her out very far but I did get her down the block and back. The turbo whistles and the tranny sounds happy again. She shifts smooth, clutch works like a dream, and there's no hesitation. I'm still working on getting the cooling system full of fluid so I didn't want to go far or push it hard tonight but so far all signs point to good things.

Idle is smooth, consistant. Rev's well. Generally sounds happy. Tomorrow I may get her on the road a little more and work out the RPM not reading ( I think it's just a crossed wire as I did have to redo the connector as the wires had broken on the chassis side).

So now with the Radio Flyer running she'll soon be up for sale after I fix a couple of the small items and I can fully devote my time into getting all the cool things I've been collecting into my 93'.

And of course, many thanks to all those that helped answer questions during the tranny rebuild and other various questions that I asked to get to this point - Thank you!

Well, she will be a little slower than before. But she still has my old motor, 3" TBE, and a MBC. So she'll have some kick.

And I got the dash issues fixed this morning. I forgot to plug back together a few connectors under the dash *duh  *. So I now know it is still throwing a code or two which will get checked tonight. But atleast now I can drive it on the public roads with some sort of understanding of speed :).

Anyone have stock WRX gear ratios off hand?

:). I'll get some pictures up soon.

Right now it's throwing three codes - 35, 44, and 45. All are emissions/evap control so I'm not sweating them.

Apparently the bucking/cutting out at greater than 1/3 throttle hasn't gone away so I'll have to play with the pp6 a little more. But otherwise it's still running great :).

Hmm... Okay Doug :). Tomorrow night is a play night in the garage. I'll check to see if there is continuity between the plug and the chassis. When was the last time you were dealing with the car?

It's strange though, it's not throwing a code for the knock sensor. I would have though if the wire was shorted it would throw a knock code.

Ultimately it would be best to get a bridge plug for the pp6 as it now has stock injectors installed instead of the larger ones it was used to. That or a re-map I guess.

And thanks for the help too Doug.

I've had the Canister purge solenoid valve #35 cause many other problems.

Hmm... Okay. I'll look into that too Lunatech. Thanks.

I drove the car into work today and will be stopping at the DMV at lunch to get the Idaho title. Other than a stall out getting on the highway she drove great (didn't get into the throttle much). I'll be taking some pictures today too so hopefully I can post some up soon.

Wow, Very Nice Lee! That looks awesome!! :-D

The ride height looks alot better. When it had the lowered suspension and stock 15's it looked a little weird. It looks good though! Glad to see it back on the road

heyyyyy now..... haha... ok I take full responsibility for everything I do.... ya I was going to switch lanes, in heavy traffic and went to head check and was scoping if I could squeeze in or not between 2 cars, and sure enough the second I looked back the light turned yellow, and when I looked back forward HELLO FORD ASS! haha. she had a hitch though so she didnt even report it which was nice... just a few front end parts and mine was back on the road. I honestly think it looks freakin sweet like that though...
