Rear Diff Question

Post by Jutboy »

Howdy there.
I've to a question about a swap I"m planning/have been planning for too long.

I've got a 2.2t and 5mT from a 91 Legos that I pulled and I want to put into a 93 Impreza OB.

I was told I need to find a 4.11 rear diff. True?

I also heard that I might be about use some easier to find parts (WRX maybe). Any truth to that?

I'd appreciate any help that can be provided.

p.s. If you know of/have any thing for sale shoot me a PM. I'm in CT.

Was the 5MT from a turbo or non-turbo 91 legacy? If it was turbo, the final drive ratio is 3.9. If it was non-turbo, the final drive ratio is 4.11.

You won't be able to use a WRX rear diff.

.....unless you find a wrx 5mt to go with it. tranny and rear diff ratios have to match. Aside from that you should be good to go.

The 3.9 turbo legacy parts seem to be kinda hard to come by, you could probably sell the 5mt to fund a more common 5mt setup.

Yeah if it's turbo you're looking at $150-$200 for the rear diff since it's VSLD from anyone who knows what they have. If it's N/A you can get one from the junkyard for like $60 or less. Depending on which yard you go to.

Ok, The tranny is off a turbo legacy.

I don't mind the hunt for hard parts, if the parts is worth it. How does the tranny/diff I have hold up compared to WRX (or another better one you can recommend?)
