Board Maintenance - 10/19/2003

Post by Legacy777 »

We're planning on doing a little maintenance on the board tomorrow. This is just a quick FYI.

I'm planning on importing the old BC-BF groups info into the board.

Awesome! It'll be really great to have them accessible through this interface and through the same search.

Thanks, Josh!

Just one quick question, when a new message is sent on thte yahoo group will that be automatically added to the archives here or however you are doing it?

THAWA: No. What Josh is doing is merging our database with the greater bulk of messages that were in the Legacyworks list since it started. The traffic there is a lot less than it used to be, so we're not going to worry too much about messages posted after whatever date Josh has used as the cutoff.

So what should a post whore like me who uses Sunday to their best advantage (:D) be expecting? A down time, no posting... what?

You rock Josh, and if there is down time, most of the "post-whore's" here will have like two days of posting to do to get beyond their withdrawls. :)

Not to rush ya or anything. Good luck with the merge.

Yay, we're back up!

Was there unforeseen difficulty with the transfer of posts? Or am I missing them?

Thanks for working on it for all of us, Josh.

Josh did a fabulous job integrating those messages into the Archive...which isn't available for public consumption quite yet, but the messages are there. He's going to be doing some extra stuff to it, pruning all of the extra Yahoo crap that got stuck on the messages, etc...

It took a little longer than we expected, but we really had not problems. All messages that were on the board are still here, he backed up the db after the board was taken down and then merged them and reindexed.

Further info to come, probably tommorow.

Wow! Above and beyond!

Awesome. Topic IDs are still the same as before, though, right? So links of the form "/viewtopic.php?t=1234" will not have changed?

Everything went pretty much as planned. I had run through some tests on my own server before hand, so pretty much knew what issues I was going to run into.

Yes topic id's and everything is exactly the same. The only difference you will see is that from after inserting the archives all topic & post id's will be several thousand greater then what they were before....but it in no way affects any of the old posts. For pretty much any user of the board, the integration was seamless.

I'll probably be trimming some the extra crap out of the messages, and will probably be looking for a little help. I will go into that further, when I open the archives.

stay tuned.....
Josh
