Advice needed, Keep or sell.

Post by 90rwd »

So. Im 17. I have a 1990 Legacy L. Front Wheel drive fail. Auto.
The engine runs amazing. Ive had 180 out of it no problem. The transmission shifts great. Its got the usual blown suspension. With right front side CV joint problem. Passenger fender dented and the same with the door. It got hit on the wheel which caused all that damage.
I had big plans with it. I was going to buy an AWD parts car and make it AWD drive standard. And i know i could do the job with the right parts car but i dont have the money. But i brought the car for $200
SO. My prediciment is.
Sell? Or Drive it until it pops?

I really know why im posting this. i just wanted an input. Lol.
Thankkss.

or Save money for something better (not dissing your car or anything).

Or keep it and save money and do some crazy insane H6 twin turbo EDM Diesel swap

I think i like your idea of the save a buy something better. Im thinking 94 legacy turbo. with a 5 speed. Then do the basics. TD04. Upgraded intercooler. Suspension. Brakes. And exhaust. I would be madly happy with that but i have no idea how much that would be lol.

On the other the EDM Diesel swap would be highly amusing. Also great for fuel costs too haha.

Ya definitely look for a SS much better start. The td04, intercooler, injector, EM, etc etc will probably run anywhere from $300-1000 + cost of the car. Either way a stock SS auto or 5spd is quite a large performance upgrade from my experience.

With the td04 and intercooler you are looking at around 180AWHP and 240Ft-lb of torque. This is with the revtronix chip running 16psi. Basically you are at a WRX with more torque. The hp numbers vary depending on where your car is dyno'd too.

Then when you want to go STi fast get a vf39 and you can then get the HP up to 240 and the ft-lb's are around 270 around 17psi.

I was running td04, 06 wrx IC, 440cc injectors with revtronix stage 2 and the car was +wrx fast and it was automatic, and my auto was really messed only had a short time of getting to drive somewhat properly, then my second gear died...... Now I am back to stock with plans to go vf39 or possibly td04 again. To top it off it got very good fuel economy considering the way I was driving it. I am pretty sure if I stayed out of boost I could hit the 500km out of a tank.

Really?! I'll be looking a that hp?
How much would it cost to buy the revtronix chip?

And that fuel economy actualy sounds really good!

I'm thinking of spending around 2500 on an awd standard turbo legacy? Would you say that's a good figure?

Where are you located? If it is pretty mint and drives really well then $2500 is a great deal!

Why not? Get a job hippy. Even if you saved half your take home at 10$ an hour at a 30 hour a week job 450 it would only take slightly over a year...

+ even so he needs to insure the car and a legacy turbo is VERY cheap to insure in Canada vs a WRX. Driving a WRX is nice though. + all teh 7k wrx's I went to see were FUCKED like brutally beaten down horrors.

I am sure you can find a decent SS over where you are from $500-2000. Cheaper the better because you are going to want to upgrade the basics and do maintenance such as brakes, suspension, timing belt, oil seals and hoses, plugs, wires, filters, cleaning etc etc. THEN you can move onto the td04 intercooling :) Stock the car is great but if you want to get the ooomph is should have had to begin with dialing in the boost to 10-13 psi is a good start not intercooled. People argue it's not the right thing to do, but there is a knock sensor to protect itself.

Revtronix also has a stage 1 which I really wanted to try as it required no modification and offers better fuel economy + the power. Right now revtronix is away, but hopefully the business will be up and running soon.

You must be looking in the wrong places. I have helped two people in the last year get WRX and finding them in perfect shape for 8k is easy, and the price is dropping.

Hmm, I just monitor kijiji, craig, local subaru club. I am in Ontario so guys here price things pretty high. SS's over here are going for $2500-5000 lol.

I don't wan to go massively over board with mods. I want something that when I get some dumb prick who drives by me who thinks he's real tough cause he has a chev 1500 with duel exhaust. I can just drop gear and burn him.
And I kind of want to be a sleeper for a while until I can afford a paint job.
So I'll probably do brakes and suspension. And hang off wheels for abit.

I really want to make it rwd drive! Just to be different and to have more fun!
I'm going to start looking for parts to get prices.
Do you guys think I should go brand nee? Or just lightly used?

Thanks again to all your input!
