I have a 92 AWD LEgacy Wagon that has grinding syncros now in 3rd gear and starting 4th. 2nd gear is having a wierd problem in which sometimes it just will not go in at all. 4th does that sometimes as well... Anyways, i decided to rebuild this transmission and was wondering if anyone out there offers like a rebuild kit with all new seals and syncros or something of the sorts? I mainly don't know where to obtain the parts i need... Is the stealership the only place to get all the parts i need? How expensive are syncros? Also i have never rebuild a suby 5spd... Are there any good manuals or any tips anyone could give me regarding what i maybe need to look out for? How to take the to main gear shafts apart? Thanks in advance!

Not to be flipant, but... you are fucked for parts and info....
I have done a few trannies, and ALL by guessing. You need the service manuals if you can find that stuff.
Parts?
Often not available, you may need to swap in parts that are the same, but have different part numbers.

Keep in mind that the factory manual on my site is for the Australian Liberty model. The transmission should be the same/similar, but like I said, just keep that in mind if you run across something that looks a little odd.

Re: Rebuilding the 5Spd Tranny...
I am going through the tranny on my car and I know there are some parts that won't be available in the future. One of the gears I got was the last one in the country and there is only one more mainshaft left. No problem on the synchros, bearings, seals and such. I got all my parts from my local dealer. A wrx tranny is going to be the way to go I feel if there are parts you can't get for our tranny's or a good used one from someone here.

Definitely worth looking at the price of a rebuild vs. a used replacement. As long as the final drive is the same, any ph.II 5mt should bolt up, I believe.

Also, you can take pretty much ANY gearset up to 05? and swap that over, as long as you have all the parts.....
I rebuilt a 2002 WRX tranny with a blown 3rd gear with a 90-94 3rd/4th gearset! As far as I know, its still running!
