Engine install price?

Post by funkentelechy »

I am installing an engine in a 99 outback mt legacy for a friend. I usually would just do it for free but I've been told that I should charge something, her parents are paying for everything and would like to compensate me for my work. I have not been keeping track of my hours or anything sensible like that, so I'm looking for a general ballpark figure that would be a good deal for her parents while not totally ripping myself off.I have done a lot engines and these engines are easy to do, but I really have no idea what to charge.

$100. Depends on several factors really. How much do you like her parents? How much do you like her? How much time is it gonna take you? How many swear words will you have to take out on the job? How much beer and/or food are they supplying? Etc.

Yes I do have to and have already removed the old engine. I'm indifferent about her parents, I like her, round about est. 20 hrs? excluding breaks to get old engine out put new engine in,maybe 30% more swear words than if I were just siting around doing nothing, and the parents aren't supplying any food/beer.

to remove and install engines, i think 250-300 is fair for a backyard job.

Yeah that's a bummer right there.

LOLZ Good point. I forgot about that one.

Anyways, yeah $250-$300 sounds nice. I wouldn't charge that much if anything for my gf/parents but I like them a lot so it's different.
