MT speedometer lower cable

Post by mvons »

I'm a little Pissed all the talk about the lower section of the speedometer shows the AT part which is what I bought in error. PLEASE don't post a photo on the lower speedometer part without saying AT only. No where
do I see the part number for the MT. Time to find the parts manual here.

I am thrilled it is definitely that part not the part in the tranny. Though I don't see what the problem is with driving a zero MT speedometer. We use the tach anyway for the speed. Of course I wouldn't reveal this to CHP! And we are keeping the car or taking parts off so there isn't the dishonest odometer problem.

The ECU will do weird things without the speedometer working. Cooling fans will run all the time, and the engine like I said, may run a little weird.

Luckily the 50 miles up our mountain home when it broke everything ran "fine". Hubby was hoping the engine would finally blow. Background abused 190k when we bought and 100k more on it, new tranny 30K ago. Head gasket fix put in last week, #1 cylinder down to 60, #4 at 120, #2 & 3 are perfect. No place to rebuild, and the body rusted, we are running it until it dies. But as the usual energizing bunny subaru it keeps going. So we wouldn't be able to tell if the ECU was making it run weird as our idle is already at the point of being cranked up.

The fans did change to run all the time when hubby had to turn the key to on to bring up a window today. He has the battery disconnected to clear the CEL while we wait for subaruparts.com to deliver. One dealer in the 20 I called in the area had the part....but it wasn't on the shelf!

The part number is 37410AA061.

It appears when the tranny was done, they did not lube the speedometer when inserting, sigh. It is the little things that keep us doing the work....to do it right! I hate having to double check what a mechanic does.

Just had this issue recently... Also cut my mileage in half. The MT part you seek has been superseded by a cheaper, better version. See this thread.

Weird, according to dealer and my parts manual (and several previous threads), 737411752 is the AT/MT replacement part that supersedes the original... I've got it in my MT and it's working just fine right now. I had previously broken 2 of the original ones with the flexible tallywhacker.

Oh, fiddlesticks. I pm'd a post to fishbone, instead of posting here, what a newb.

I ordered 37410AA061 last night from SGP, and it wasn't superceded by 737411752. The tallywhacker breaking off makes sense. If it breaks on my new one, I'll get the tallywhackerless piece.
