Center Diff and Transfer Gear Swap???

Post by 97imprezaobs »

hello all...

so ive got a 5 speed tranny out of a 200 legacy gt but it has no center diff or transfer gears. i understand that the final drive of this trans is 4.11

i also have a transmission out of some 2.2 impreza which has no second gear and the final drive is 3.9...used this to do a 5mt swap on my 94 legacy turbo wagon.

my question is...can i take the 3.9 final drive gears and transfer gears out of the 2.2 trans and put them into the 2000 gt trans and make it work in my turbo wagon with a 3.9 rear diff?

any advice would be great...thank you

I know you can't use a phase I center diff in a phase 2 tranny.

You can:

It is possible to swap center diff's between phases as long as the corresponding tail shaft AND transfer case is used as well. That means that the main shaft from the transmission between phase 1 and phase 2 IS the same. It's just everything else that's different. The entire assembly can be seen above in the first diagram labeled 3-1. You need everything that's pictured there.
