My 'teaser' picture

Post by skid542 »

Everyone here has been very patient with my relentless questions this winter and I thought I'd post up a quick picture to let you all know I haven't been just blowing smoke.... I hope to have it ready to turn the key and start the tuning process in a couple weeks upon which I'll have a whole new set of questions :). Anyrate....

Looks nice! Wish I hadn't been lazy and painted my manifold before putting it back on.

Thank you. The intake manifold isn't painted. It's an extra thick application of ceramic coating :). The coolant crossover was also coated at the same time. The picture doesn't really show it but there's also a set of phenolic spacers under it. The exhaust manifold is the 'white lightning' coating from Swain Tech.

DWAMN!!! *insert dancing banana here*

Looking good Lee!! Cant wait to see this beast in person and out on the track!

Went to the first Auto cross this year, didnt see you there. But I finished 4th in my class, out of 9...not bad. I was happy.

Keep up the good work! :)

Wait, were you the one asking all those questions on cooling your intake and everything? That exhaust manifold is so bright I didn't even see it the first time! Haha.

How much was the ceramic coating?

Very cool Lee!

The swaintech exhaust coating is worth the money. It's awesome. I saw a 250 - 300 deg F drop in surface temps

Thanks for the compliments guys. I'm getting excited and hopeful that it will work out. Still a lot of unknowns and for all I know I may screw it all up and end up slower than a festiva - but atleast it'll look good :).

Jordan - yeah I really wanted to come out to Auto-x but my OBW wasn't in race condition and I took the weekend off from cars. Glad you did well though, doesn't surprise me. You'll be a trophy contender in your class this year for sure :).

The swaintech coating does seem to be awesome. My only complaint is I wore a little of it off when putting the parts on the car and my deepwell socket rubbed a little. It doesn't seem to be very 'tough'. But I have a 3/16" thick skidplate (from primitive) that I'll be installing to help with that problem and rock chips and what not.

As far as cost goes Kimo, the intake and crossover cost me $100 cash including a little expedite. The exhaust pieces, including up-pipe was around $320ish. Would have been a little less but I did the up-pipe after the other pieces due to the EGT bung I had to locate.

The outer white coating is more superficial. The underlying thermal coating is intact. The stuff is pretty tough.

It's a shame to cover up a pretty blue timing belt. I looked for clear timing covers but had no luck. Yeah, there's a little ricer in all of us.

Looks like you got the Zeitronix setup. Good choice.
