Clocking a tdo4...I did it
I just have been f'n around witht he idea of a tdo4 and TMIC, I realized that I bought a 02 wrx TMIC and its a slut to fit...so I am entertaining the idea of a front mount. I have already installed one on my last car and it was awesome, but I didnt change the turbo. I just cracked the compressor cover off the Tdo4 and drilled a little hole where I wanted the mini dowel pin to seat and put it back together. I shouldnt have any problems right? other than I will have to make a custom wastegate bracket....

I clocked mine so the compressor outlet points straight up, and I didn't bother with that dowel, I just threw it away. That giant C-clip is plenty to hold it. I've been running about 10k miles like this so car with out issue.

I tried pulling the dowell out and it wouldnt budge. So instead of messing up the compressor covers seal, I just drilled it out the female side. Cool, I figured it would work fine. I just wanted mine to point away from the oil lines and wiring, and be more stock, like the vf-11. That way I can run a front mount intercooler piping easier, and dont have to mod the oil lines that I actually purchased new from subaru.... The wiring actually is pretty close too, probably get pretty hot with the turbo that close to it...
How did you mount the wastgate actuator? clocked so far.....?

I think I am going to clock the td04 to where the vf11 is and use a silicone hose to hookup the td04 to the stock intake so I can run a td04 without a IC.

Thats what I clocked it for....just for quicker spool vs, the vf-11. until I get the FMIC, I can run the tdo4 off stock boost! I have found that the volvos in the junkyard have some awesome turbo boots for pennies in the dollar....thats what mine is...I am going to post pics 2day..I swear...I already made a custom boost tube instead of the stock plastic one and it seems to have better throttle response than stock?

i havent fully installed it cuz Im not sure if I wanna tmic, or fmic? But I heard it has way more pull, quicker spool time than a wrx, due to it was matched to a 2.0, not 2.2, and its good to 250 hp....and rebuildable, which the vf11 isnt...The vf-11 is really a low power turbo built for americans, when we didnt have turbo demand....
I have maxed out my vf-11 and can barely burn out in the first three gears...3 inch down, no cats, stock injectors, stock fuel pump, 13 lbs of boost. That setup works about 6 months, then the vf-11 blows due to surge on the turbine side(reaching maximum rpm on the trurbo shaft )
So the wrx is 13 lbs stock, and like I said has a better spool time due to the 2.0 liters it was matched to stock! thank god for those extra .2 liters!!!!!!

I was a able to use one of the mounting holes, then I welded the appropriate sized aluminum nut to the turbo housing, and I had to slightly bend the wastegate actuator arm.obd1-kenobe wrote:
