Speedometer base piece on transmission

Post by ericem »

Hey guys, just wondering has anyone else encountered having the rubber part at the end stuck in the tranny? I have 3 broken tranny's and each base I removed the same thing happened and I picked out the rubber. I am installing a working tranny and I removed the base and the same thing again! Thinking I will just order a new base, I already have a new cable. Just verifying if I should be picking out that rubber piece. I will take a picture.

No but I recently tried pulling the cable off to reroute it through the mess behind the engine and the cable came out of that piece you have there and exposed the bare wire inside. Not sure if this is broken now or what but it pissed me off. I didn't pull it out all the way though. Just shoved it back in once I saw what happened.

Yes, when I replaced mine, the rubber piece stayed put. You need to remove it and the metal washer piece as well.
