Oil-light flashed for a sec when I pushed clutch pedal

Post by keelhaul »

hello.
this scared me a bit. when i floored my clutch pedal, i went down to 2-300 rpm for a very short while. and then my oillamp flashed. the light went out when the idle went higher

is it probably my oil pump or filter you think? whats the worst case? i have a secondary oilpressure gauge modded in below my cd player. i didnt look at it when this happened at the light-stop. it normally shows 4 bar(?) in my car when im driving.
im not sure if that gauge is working tho, as im not the one who installed it. will check my dipstick tomorrow when it has cooled down.

The oil pressure switch can do funky things when they go bad.

For a while, the pressure switch on my beater wagon would turn the light on at idle, and go away with any higher rpms. It slowly go worse after that. Before I changed the pressure switch, the oil light would be on at anything less than 2000 rpm. If there was a problem with oil pressure, that motor would have been toast long before that. Unless the relief valve sticks and you have zero pressure, the pump would have to make noise that sounded like death before it stopped pumping oil.

Change out the oil pressure switch, and you should be fine. Its around $20 from the dealer.
