1989 Legacy GT - What to look for?

Post by 05LGT »

Hi,

I'm looking at a 1989 Legacy GT wagon (auto) used. Seller claims the car is in good condition, very little rust and 225,000 kms.

What "gotchas" should I look for? She said there may be a leak from the head gasket area. I've got an 05 Legacy GT Wagon, but I wouldn't mind having a winter beater (or just an auto-x car).

Thanks,

do you mean a 1998 legacy gt wagon? if so these are notorious for leaking headgaskets. if you don't mind shelling out a good chunk of change to get the headgasket replaced, go for it. or if you can do this yourself, even better. other than that, a great car.

I'm guessing he's overseas, maybe Austrailia or New Zealand.

Nope, Canada.. too bad, because the guy selling doesn't know the difference between 1989 and 1999.

He sent me pics this morning, it's actually a 99 Outback.

:( Too bad..
