When under constant acceleration, it stays in 5th gear. If you let up and the RPM's drop by more then a few 100, it slips out of gear. That is, mostly out of gear.....you can hear/feel it in the shifter hitting/bouncing on the gear, but you still have to clutch it to get it back in.
What give? Need to replace?

Yeah....you'll probably be best off finding a used trans to swap in.

I Figured that....was just hoping in the wind that someone would have a mirical fix like so many other things you guys have come up with. Thanks anyway!

I'm pretty sure you can do fifth gear by just taking the rear extension housing off, which is not too bad. A friend did it in the car, but I wouldn't want to try that with that locating bolt that has to go in the shift shaft. Pull the tranny which you would have to do anyway and pull the housing. It's easy with the tranny out.
