I just picked up a complete ej22t and the turbo looks rather new-ish.
What's the easiest way for me to determine what turbo it is?
I'm having trouble finding any meaningful markings through all the grime.
Forgive my EJ22T newbie questions. I just bought this thing and I am about ready to start the research binge.
For anyone who wants to lend any ideas, I'm using a Megasquirt standalone ECU and my goals are 200 whp. I am going to use my EJ22E intake mani so it's easy to go back and forth for OBD2 inspections. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

TDO4 = left, VF11 = right. You should be able to identify by reading the stamped identification on the turbo housing.

ooh good tip!
I'm trying to decide what turbo to use. The TD04 is easy and cheap, but I want to be able to go as high as 250 whp without running the turbo too far out of it's efficiency range. Sadly I haven't been able to find many compressor maps of the VF series turbos to compare to the TD04. It's always anecdotal evidence, which I do not prefer.

Meyagi, quit stalking me! It's either here, RS25, Facebook, or Mainely Subarus LOL.
I have heard the 22T heads don't flow all that well but I'm hoping to get away with it for the time being.
I'm trying to do this for cheap without cutting corners, and upgrading to DOHC heads doesn't make sense to me right now.
As for the TD04 not getting me to 250 whp... I am aware of that, which is too bad because they are so cheap! I have been offered a VF34 which I believe will get me there, but 200 whp on a TD04 (maybe pushing it?) may be more bang for the buck than 250 whp on a VF34.
Sadly I can only speculate since I've never had the chance to drive either setup...
Either way the turbo must mate to the stock downpipe/uppipe otherwise that adds things to the list that I must spend money on...

Very cool. Do you have a link to your build thread or info on your setup? I can't seem to find one in the build journals section and I don't want to pester you with questions about your setup.

The info is scattered around the board. That was on a pretty much stock ej22t, p&p TD05-16G turbo, AWIC, MSD ignition, 3" turbo back exhaust with high flow cat, and a Link G4 stand alone ECU.
Alright. Well, the ej22t is going to sit on my engine stand while I build and tune my megasquirt on my stock ej22e. I'll be selling off the bits that I don't need such as VF11, power steering pump, alternator, ac compressor, autotragic tranny to fund the other stuff.
Someone is offering me a TD04 for $50 delivered to my house which might be a good starting point for getting used to tuning a boosted setup after doing the megasquirt.
The only other thing I can't decide on is using my ej22t intake mani or my ej22e intake mani. I hear the T has some weird side feed injectors?
