I found a 91 turbo 5sp

Post by TDGKORN »

I found a 91 turbo 5sp in a car lot in my town. the problem is it's in crappy shape on the outside and interior. the engine and tranny seem good. is it worth getting and fixing up or should i wait and find a different one in better condition. by the way i have been looking everywhere for a 5sp turbo. any suggestions?

the body is pretty dinged up and the interior is torn and pieces are broken (someone stole the radio, broke some trim pieces) the cruise doesn't work, the ac doesn't work and the sunroof is stuck closed.

he's asking $4995 for it which i think is a bit high for the condition, i know there are only 58 of them, but he doesn't. I drove it once and it seemed real strong, nothing really jumped out at me. the bank said they will only give me $2900 for it, not sure if he will take it.

I wouldn't pay a dime more than 3 grand for it. And that's if the dealer fixes some things on it. That's why they are supposed to get top dollar. But it does have the rear LSD...

There's no way those numbers are even close... Think about it, 58 91 5mt's in the whole country? How can a car maker make a profit making less than 60 cars????

Who said they made a profit?

We're beating a dead horse here. Someone check a registry and see how many are in the country. This will be an endless argument otherwise.

I wouldn't pay more than $3000 for it. That is what I would consider a fair price. It would have to have around 70-100K and be in mint condition to be considered worth $5000 in my opinion. The numbers are very low for Subaru's production of these, however I don't think they are as low as most places I've seen quote it as. I've seen at least 5 different claims to the amount and the only thing in common is that it is coming from a dealer source (aka someone trying to get top dollar). The best one was a 94 that claimed that only ten of the 5mt sedans were imported that year. I also had a guy here in Colorado tell me that there were only 7 sport sedans in the whole state (auto and manual). I laughed at him. I don't think he appreciated it. Look closely at it and figure out what kind of damage it may or may not have and put a dollar amount to fix it. Then subtract the total amount from the NADA trade in value to get an idea of what they own it for and that may help you determine the price to pay. Anyhow, I wouldn't pay more than $3000 if I were you.

There has to be at least 10 sport Sedans in my area, with a population of a little more than 50,000 people. At least 5 of them are 5-speeds.
