New Strut Install Finished

Post by SubyFusion »

Well I finally finished Installing my KYB Gr-2s, this was my first time doing struts and all I have to say is what a pain in the ass!!! Subaru did not make this very easy, the front wasn't bad but the rear was a killer the top hat bolts are a pain in the butt! and because the back has no bearings its hard to line up the top hats, plus having to bleed the brakes that sucked to but in all it wasn't to hard the whole thing only took about 4 hours which isn't bad considering my lack of experience with struts. Here are some pictures I took along the way

Front struts out and ready for new ones :D

New ones look way Better ;-)

Before picture stock struts. rockin the original hub caps 8)

After Picture! picked up some wheels the same week I did the install and had some General Exclaim UHPs slapped on love these wheels :D

Over all these struts are awesome with the stock springs way better then the stock struts the Gr-2s are way stiffer and with the general tires on there they grip amazing rides way nicer I am very please with this set up would recommend this to any one running the stock KYB struts. for all 4 struts i paid 280 dollars shipped so these are very affordable for anyone on a low budget who needs new struts

here the link to my photobucket with the rest of the pictures: http://s898.photobucket.com/albums/ac18 ... n/?start=0

P.S. Thanks to everyone who responded to my questions for all the info it was much appreciated :D

heh, I just installed my KYB's last weekend. For a first timer, I'd suggest reading through http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=32233 -- specifically the 'trick' used to not have to rebleed each line.

There's some little tips for changing struts that make it easier. The brake line thing is one of them. Regarding the strut tops in the rear. There is...or should be an arrow on the mount that points outwards to help with alignment. An air ratchet helps dramatically with the strut top bolts in the rear.

Haha ya I finally saw the arrow. I was trying to put the top hat bolts threw and they wouldn't fit i eventually figured out that the arrow has to be on the out side other wise the top half hits the wheel well and the bolts wouldn't line up with the holes. The front was alot easier to do then the rear. thanks for all the info josh it really helped :D
