Tire pressures for wrx takeoffs?

I have wrx takeoffs with stock bridgestones on my 91 waqon. I was wondering what would be the best tire pressure for them? stock legacy, stock wrx, or? also, different pressures for autox? was thinking of trying one. also I have my old 14" steels too that I would like to run snow tires on. can anyone recomend a good 14" snow tire? blizzAKS, nokians, etc are kinda out of my budget. whats good and cheap?

You'll need to experiment to figure out what pressures work best for you, but start with the recommended pressures for the Legacy.

Last year I used Hankook Zovac snow tires that worked pretty well for me and were fairly cheap. I don't remember how much though... I don't know if they make them in 14" (I had them in 16") but I would imagine they do. A couple years ago Hankook was almost unheard of so they tried really hard to make a name for themselves here.

You'll want to start with 40 psi all the way around for auto-x. Then go from there. Some people run ridiculous amounts of pressure in the RE-92's to keep the edges from rolling.

I know 13" snow tires are really cheap and easy to get. I'm not sure if it's similar for 14". Go to a tire shop and get a set of nice studdable snow tires. If they are studdable then you know they mean business. And by nice I mean whatever you want to afford. Actually, you can just go pick out what tread pattern you like that's nice, deep, open (and studdable). That's all I had to do for my Brat and I've never been dissapointed with a snow tire yet.

well tirerack.com has a few options for around 40 bux a tire in 185/70/14. Dunlop graspics were reviewed as better than blizzacks by one guy. I think Ill probably go wiht those. I am going to check around locally for any deals thouhg.

I got a set of yoko guardex i ran when I was in the northeast. I was VERY pleased with them.

yes I have heard good things about those, how many miles did you get off them, pavement and snow or what usage?

everyone i've auto-x'd with has had to run about 50 psi in the front cause those tires have such weak sidewalls. In the rear you can afford to go lower but in order to overcome the understeer of your cars you'd probably be best with a pressure just under 40 psi (more oversteer is great on tiht courses)

oversteer is also a helluva lot more fun! thanks for the inf, though those pressures seem incredibly high.

I ran them for four seasons, however didn't really run them too much, since I was in school. I think about 7000 miles, and they still have quite a bit of tread left.
