Need help setting up ignition settings on PP6
I have been tuning my PP6, but only using fuel maps. I would like to modify the timing since I'm running e85 and can benefit from advancing timing. I have never got this to work right and I think it has to do with the settings. This is on a stock ej22t longblock.
What should the ignition settings be:
Teeth per turn?
Teeth per firing?
Ignition advance limit?
Ignition ret limit?
What should the crank signal mode be?
1-Missing tooth operation
10-Single ignition advance
11-Single ignition advance
12-Two ignition advance
13-Single ignition advance
20-Odd signal retard
I also want to verify that each value entered in the ignition map equals to 1 degree....so if I input 10 its 10 degrees ignition advance.

Nothing? I know there is guys running the PP6 or that ran the PP6 and adjusted the ignition maps. What settings did you guys use. Do those global settings even matter?

It's been too long since I've played with the perfect power. Doug would be the person to ask those questions.
Have you looked over the documentation? This thread has Doug's install notes/pin out guide, and I've posted all the documents I have.

Re: Need help setting up ignition settings on PP6
I have read all of the stuff in that thread. The wiring is all set.
Basically it's just Subaru related ignition options.....like how many teeth on our TLeg crankshaft and what kind of signal it sends.
I am not even sure if I need to input these. Josh, do you remember setting up any of the global settings in the actual program interface for ignition when you were running the PP6?

Let me see if I can find or remember what those settings were supposed to be. You do need to set them up.
I'll report back.

Ok, looked back through some old files and found a configuration file.
Here's how I had the different tabs setup in the Global Settings.

Re: Need help setting up ignition settings on PP6
You CAN NOT advance timing.
It just doesn't fucking work.
That said, you really don't want to probably. Do you KNOW what the timing really is at WOT at all RPM levels?

Re: Need help setting up ignition settings on PP6
Instead of advancing timing, you can pull some fuel. Either advancing timing/pulling fuel will give you more power whatever.... BUT!!!!!!!
Do you have knock ears and/or wideband? If you don't have either, I wouldn't do either (well, I have, I have also blown too many pistons!)

Re: Need help setting up ignition settings on PP6
Thanks Josh for the info
Douglas Vincent....I do have a wideband and was running 91 octane no problem with no knock. I figured since I went to e85, which is like 105 octane, I could advance the timing by a few degrees and still be safe. I know higher octane burns much slower, especially e85. You actually lose power if going to a higher octane without advancing the timing.
I totally agree with not being able to see what the timing is doing as it stands right now. My theory behind this is that some of my friends running AccessPorts on newer WRXs have a dynamic timing advance, where it adds a value on top of the already aggressive timing set by the tune. I was going to stay below the numbers they were logging for dynamic advance...I have seen up tp 12 additional degrees. I figured starting by adding 2-3 degrees and not exceeding 5-7 would be safe.
I would like to see what you think about this.

Re: Need help setting up ignition settings on PP6
IF, you know what your timing is, then yes, it would be good to advance. However, with the PP6, it just can't happen.
However.....
I can advance timing with my PP6.
How?
I am running NA ECU. Which at WOT is 32 degrees! WAY to advanced. So I PULL timing way back. But when I switched to E85, I pulled LESS timing, which is kind of like advancing it.....

Re: Need help setting up ignition settings on PP6
Very interesting....is there no way of knowing what the Turbo ECU is doing at WOT. I could definitely benefit form a little timing, but now I'm skeptical to even try to give it a little.
How much less tiiming did you pull out when going to E85?

Re: Need help setting up ignition settings on PP6
If I can get in a turbo legacy, my Vicash Scan Tool can read timing and I can report back.
I am running 22 degrees I think at WOT. Probably could run more, but am not at moment.
