Steering play

Ok when i got my car i noticed that the steering wheel was cocked to one side ( top at about 1 oclock) but after laon turns to the left on return to center the top is at 12 oclock till the next right hand turn, also my steering res is leaking onto the head and making a hell of a stink, but i keep it full. what could be causing the play?

Have you gotten under the car to look at ball joints tie rod ends or any of the other front suspension components? Steering rack bushings may also be a culprit
