Bushings are a possibility too, and are always worthwhile to replace on a car that old and with that many miles.

I have a creak in my AT wagon. It sounds like its at the base of the driver's side A-pillar. I was sure it was a strut mount, but it wasn't. I pulled the fender and there is a big brace with four bolts in it. I cranked those down and it still didn't do anything. Unless I feather it when I take off, it will creak every time. Ocassionally on bumps as well. Whenever the suspension rises quickly. But its not the suspension. ?????????

If you have a legacy, and it starts to creak, its the front swaybar bushing. remember that creaks and knockingsounds can travel through the chassis. Just take them out, spray them with a silicone spray, let the siliconespray dry for a minute, and it will creak no more. but if they are worn out, replace them with new bushings, and apply siliconespray on these too..

220k miles? Ever replace those ball joints? I'd take a peak and see if the rubbers on them are busted. When the boots bust, water will get in there and work out the grease and cause a good creak. When the ball joints go they usually make the creak when you hit bumps, very worn ones will creak when you turn the steering wheel. Another way to check them is to push up and down on the front of the car and see if it creaks. More than likely this is your problem, but it could be bushings or strut mounts as well. If the steering feels a bit sloppy, new ball joints will make a noticeable difference. You can always go and get an alignment, if the joints are to worn they will tell you they can't align it properly.

Good luck, Brian

hello fellas. searched up this old thread, and i think it fits my question.

when i brake, in low speeds, i can sometimes hear a creeking noice coming from the front.
if i tap the brake pedal in low speeds, it creeks every time i tap it.

what do you think this is? struts? i never hear anything when going over bumps, or turning.

Is the creek brake pedal dependent? Meaning, does the noise get louder or go away when you use heavier or lighter brake pedal force?

hmmm... cant say i remember. picked up the car today before work, and havent tested it that much yet. will give you an answer tomrrow. but i only hear it in low speeds, around 15mph i would say. never on the highway or suburban roads.

the easiest way to get the noise is to tap the brake pedal in low speed so the car "jerks" forwards, if you understand what i mean. then i can get it to creek very often. and its not always creeking, if i do what i wrote two sentences ago.

i will try and tap the pedal in high speeds tomorrow too, and pay attention to what you wrote above.

thanks

Try gently applying the brake pedal at low speeds to see if you hear any creeking. You want to try and eliminate the noise coming from the brakes vs. something flexing on the suspension.

You can look on the springs and see if there are still rubber sleeves that go over the lower coils. If not, it may be the springs shifting.

nah its not brake dependant. creeks when the car is it in very low speed and stopping, sometimes over bumps, sometimes when turning. creeks more when i had my fat friend sitting next to me :P seems like it comes from the left hand wheel area. or beneath the steering wheel

I'd check the anti-sway bushings & links

You can try removing the end links from the anti-sway bar, and then drive around to see if the creek is still there. If it does, it's probably something with the suspension, springs, etc. You'll have to do some more testing to figure out what it is.

it sounds like a very old, tired door hinge. "creek creek"

can loose engine and tranny mounts make that kind of sound?

and thank you very much for following me up on this. im very grateful.

The engine and trans mounts probably won't make that noise. It's likely a suspension noise. You may need to get under there with a pry bar and push on things to see if you can force the noise.

Sounds like antiroll bar bushings to me. Mine used to that—sounded like the protesting of couch springs under a fat guy's ass.

is there some good post showing antiroll bar bushings.

ill try the search but if anyone as something to show let us know.
i will change them how much this can cost? any recommendation or part number?

the last thing we did on the car was kyb gr-2 with h&r spring and i have also change the front balljoint.

since that time i got this creeking noise.

also when we install the strut we put the rear one on the front side and we broke it.
bcuz where you screw the nuts was short " front mount as bearing " , and with the impactor gun we broke the strut we rebuild it by grinding the pole.

so my question is,
is thit possible it's bcuz the strut is shorter now and this make the balancing on the car different and make that noise
