Bigger sway w/stock brackets/bushings - Bad idea?

Post by wtdash »

In the picture below is a 21mm (?) FSB off an '04 Forester XT (same as an STi I was told). From left>>right: stock bracket/bushing, stock bushing and the bushing that came w/the sway bar.

This is mounted up to my Legacy SS crossmember. I was able to use the stock bushing and bracket, but wondered if I 'should'? Will that bigger bar over-stress the bushing and bracket or will I just be giving up control vs. what the larger bushing/bracket would provide?

I bought the correct bracket/clamp for the XT's bushing but there's no way to mount it, as it has bolt holes on both ends. See the 2nd pic (not mine - just for reference).

I've read on here about 'cutting the bushing', but not found any pics of WHAT to cut. I did see where someone modified the SS brackets HERE (scroll down), but not sure if that's the best solution either.

Thanks for any input.

Good question. I also upgraded my front swaybar with a 20mm WRX wagon bar and used the stock bushings

You'll be fine with the stock mount. I used the appropriate poly bushing and it worked fine.

You need some lube on that poly bushing. The Energy Suspension silicone lube is great. Far better than the Whiteline/SuperPro lube.

I've heard that teflon tape works well also.

I've been using the stock worn out(read slightly expanded) stock bushing for about a year now on my 20mm WRX wagon bar without any issues or noises
