What's a bad timing tensioner sound like?

Post by scuba steve »

Can someone describe the sound of a bad tensioner? Does it sound like a vibration like a mini rod-knock? Does it occur on decel like when the auto tranny shifts at around 2500 rpm? Thanks for any help.

It sounds like a grinding warble and the frequency changes with engine RPM.
