Why not give him the part # on the tranny? that's really all he should need, IMO.

If they have a part #, they can search via part #. Use the parts book I posted and give him the part #

Doesn't sound like he's too sharp....

Sounds like a typical parts guy to me. Just didn't quite have the aptitude to be able to make money turning wrenches. And they always have this elitist attitude, like a trained monkey couldn't replace them. They complain the most about their jobs, and rarely are caught breaking a sweat. The whole, "well without a VIN, the part just doesn't exist" crap is my favorite. ITS YOUR JOB TO FIND PARTS ASSHOLE AND ITS NOT MY PURPOSE IN LIFE TO MAKE YOUR JOB EASIER!!!!! It seriously makes me want to jump up on the counter, pull my pants down, squat, and lay a nice steaming pile of shit on their keyboard.

Yeah really. I went down to talk to a mechanic about messing with the gearset and he was super cool. Then go down to search for parts. He wouldn't even let me look at his diagram to confirm. I told him to duck off

This same thing happened to me earlier this week. I was ordering some stuff for an E30 M3 we're building a motor for, for I had to talk directly to BMW to get some stuff from the Deutschland. While I was having parts sent, I was like "hey, and I need a fan clutch for a E46 while were at it." he was like, "OK, whats the VIN?" I was like "its a E46........its the same $26 dollar part for all years, all motors, all trims, all manufacturer facilities, all 3 series E46's and is probably a part your selling a metric asston of this time of year and someone who knew what the fuck they were doing would know the part number off the top of their head!"

I told him I'd just order the part from Worldpack and he said OK. I was halfway tempted to give the GM a ring, and tell him that his parts representative was too lazy to sell my shop, which mostly works on BMW's, a part.
