Get better bass from front speakers?

Post by ericem »

Hey guys, it seems like the front speakers could sound better if I sealed up the doors. What have you guys done? Alot of my friends have been acquiring new cars (Hyndai Genesis, kia forte) and they both have 6 speakers (2 tweeters, 4 speakers) all in the door and they sound extremely clean, with great bass, and little to no distortion.

I feel like pulling the kia forte door panel apart and seeing how it looks.

You will definitely get much better bass if you seal up your doors with sound deadener. I did it in my first legacy and in my metro and the difference is phenomenal. Seal up all the holes in the inner skin using butyl mat (raam audio is the best bang for buck but dynamat, second skin, elemental designs, etc sell it too) and use some sort of stiff material to cover the large holes and then put deadener over it. I used perforated metal to cover the large holes so it would be solid and not flex. Others have used acrylic. MDF is not recommended as it will soak up water and expand unless you seal it properly. You can coat the whole piece of MDF with fiberglass resin or something that will permanently seal it and you should be fine. I made MDF speaker mounting rings with 2 or 3 layers of 3/4" MDF and coated them with fiberglass resin and they've been solid for like 3 years now.

Here's a link to a how-to on the raamaudio website.

Rick is the owner and he's an awesome guy. Very nice and goes out of his way to make sure everything goes smooth. He even sent me samples for free when I sound deadened my custom build case for my PC! He has new product out since then that I haven't tried out but looks pretty good.

Thanks man! perfect guide I was looking for and looks proper. I saw some other guides and they honestly did a hack job IMO. Going to invest in the materials in a week or so after my turbo swap.
