Ej20g swap info plz

Am debating about buying one from here http://www.jdmtigerjapanese.com/details.php?id=1753 from what i understand everything will bolt up including my stock 4eat, stock computer etc. Install time roughly to take the ej22t out and install this? Thanks you very much in advance.

That engine is coil on plug so I think you'll need to swap your engine harness onto that engine which will probably require removal of the manifold. You'll need ot mount a coil pack on the engine somewhere and I wouldn't count on that AC compressor bolting up to your line or your AC compressor bolting up to that bracket. Mine did not but it was an EJ20G off a 97 Forester. You may be able to swap brackets which would require removal of the alternator to get it off.

You'll probably need to swap your throttle body onto that manifold too because I believe the TPS on that engine has the wrong connector. You'll most likely need to buy or fabricate a throttle body spacer as well because your TPS will hit the manifold and won't allow you to bolt it all the way down. I made my own out of 1/4" aluminum. But I think they sell them as well for "performance" reasons.

Damn was hoping it would be simple enought just to drop right in an mostly be plug and go.. May have to look into a rebuild.. Just hard for me to justify spending x amount of $s on a 200k+ mile engine.. Its a dd and commuter.. Ill have to do some more research.. I do still have those heads i got from you i should drop em off at delta before i head back to vegas for work..

I've got limited experiene w/JDM swaps, but couldn't you just put a USDM DOHC IM on it and reuse the EJ22T's harness and throttle body? Isn't that essentially what the guys doing the EJ22T block w/the EJ25 Heads are doing? Can't you convert it to the EJ22T coil pack, too?

Kimo - I know you've got more experience than me w/JDM stuff, so if I'm off base just say so!


(I know the PHASE 1 USDM EJ25 DOHC IM's are easy to get nowadays, too.)

I think that would work and then you wouldn't need to mount the EJ22T throttle body upside down and therefore shouldn't need to fab up a spacer plate.
