"Gym SOHCs"

Post by gijonas »

So i am planning a winter of overall upgrades on my car.Bigger turbo (TD05 variant),piggyback (E-manage),bigger injectors and a laminova integrated manifold that i am designing and building myself. What i am looking for is any info anyone has on modding the stock heads as i want to takle that while im at it.I really dont want recommendations on DOHC as i understand how relatively easy and effective it is,i just want to stay SOHC.To me the benefits are important.Easy plug changes, easy gasket changes, easy timing belt, less weight and heat and overall more room in the engine bay.

I can justify dropping a big one on the stock heads including port work (done myself), delta cams and possibly a 3 angle and or bigger valves.I am wondering who all has done work on these heads and what kind of flow CAN be made.I just find it hard to believe these things cant be made to be a great set of heads. And in case you want to know my goals, I need to support 350+ which i think is within reason done properly?

Are you looking for 350 whp or 350 chp?

Either way, you'll likely need a bigger turbo than the TD05. You'll need between 600 and 800 cc/min injectors, depending on whp or chp.

Agreed on the stand alone. I don't think you'll be able to reliably make that power on a piggy back. You'll be fighting the stock ECU.

With a stand alone and some work done to help the SOHC heads flow a little better, I think 350 chp is very doable. I'm curious where I'll sit with the new engine since the Wiseco pistons up the compression ratio and I've got a delta cam to go in. I think it will help things a little bit, but still don't think it'll get me to 350 chp.

You'll need around 600 - 650 cc/min injectors to hit that mark, and you'll likely be at the limit of what the TD05 will do efficiently.

I agree on the injectors, but thats the easy part. And it seems things are always at the max..efficiency wise.I would rather a turbo breathing hard at the top if it means a little less in the lag department.Do you not think a 20g is sufficient for this?

Nobody gone hardcore with the stock heads? :(

Or at least tried.

I think a 20g would probably be sufficient....an 18g may be as well.....however that's just speculation based on the numbers. I haven't looked at any compressor maps.
