Hollowing the cat. Please help.

Post by GizMo22t »

I have been spending the last eight hours hollowing out my CAT. Most of the time was spent finding something to bend for the forty-five Deg angle off the turbo. All in all it went good but there is one piece of the Catalyst that will not come out, it is driving me nutz. I am wondering if there is any chemical reaction that will desolve the Catalyst? Please help. I have tried everything to get it out short of cutting the pipe and having it re welded.

I think its some sort of ceramic, so no. Keep beating on it, it will pulverize after a while.

The catalyst is most likely a ceramic with platinum coating or something similar.....plus it depends on the type of cat. converter...

I thought I was still in NASIOC off-topic when I read the subject line, so I laughed for a while.

anyways, yeah just keep beating on it. try a carbon steel rotary brush attachment on your drill. and make DAMN sure you're wearing a face mask. that stuff is wicked carcinogenic.

Ahhh, makes perfect sense.

Any links to what science is used in gutting the cat?

Do you chisel the shiat out of it? or bang it from the outside? or what.

Bingooo!

and just a piece of bar will work, I used a 20lb pry bar on mine. stuck the bar through the hole and puonded it on the ground. then put it in the vise andused a smaller piece of rebar and a hammer to clean it up. wear a dust mask!!! in the cat is platinum alloy of some sort that is the catalyst and its a bad carcinogen.
