ej22t swap into n/a 5 speed

Post by letsridestreet »

Hey guys are there any good threads out there to do this. I have the motor that i just rebuilt and i want to swap it into the N/A i just bought. I still have a complete ss but its wrecked, everything in the front is still there unharmed. I could use some advice or a thread. I heard something about swapping harnesses from a guy is this true?

There's several threads that cover what needs to be done. I'd suggest searching in the electrical forum.

Don't bother swapping harnesses. Here's a summerized list of what you need to do:

- Swap the front crossmember
- Swap the engine harness and relocate the coolant temp sensor wires to the other side of the manifold (this allows you to use your stock engine harness with the turbo motor without any modification to the plugs behind the battery)
- Add the turbo specific sensors
- Add wiring for the turbo specific sensors: MAP sensor, wastegate solenoid, and pressure exchange solenoid. (If you don't have an issue canobilizing your turbo, pull the wiring harness out and extract the shielded wire for the MAP sensor and pull the wiring for the other two sensors. Then all you need to do is run those to the ECU connectors and insert the pins into the existing ECU connector. All you need to do then is add switched 12v to the pressure exchange & wastegate solenoids)
- Swap the positive pins for the crank & cam sensors
- Swap ECU
- Swap turbo fuel pump or get walbro (preferred)

That's the jist of it. Just run the turbo sensors and swap charcoal canisters

When you say swap the harness you mean use the N/A harness on the Turbo motor right? And you mean the the coolant wires that connect to the crossover pipe? And i was think about the boost controller and such but then i thought maybe i could just run mechanical controller? And what would the positive pins on the crank and cam sensors be i know they just plug right into the engine harness. Are the turbo and N/A connectors different. And i was worried about ecu but it is just plug and play correct? And good thing i just bought a walbro before it got wrecked.

I am talking about specifically the engine harness from the n/a motor.

Yes the coolant temp sensors in the crossover pipe. The n/a cars they're on the passenger side. The turbo cars they're on the driver's side.

You can run a manual boost controller, but you would need to wire up either the wastegate solenoid or auto trans dropping resistor so the computer doesn't throw a check engine light and go into limp mode.

At the ECU connector, each wire comes to a pin that plugs into the ECU. You can remove these pins from the connector and move them around. It takes a little practice on how to do this, but this is the easiest way to make things work. The turbo ECU is wired different than the non-turbo ECU, which is why the pin swap is necessary.

ECU is plug and play

The MAP or pressure sensor is located on the passenger side strut tower with the other turbo specific sensors.
