Oil Cooler Part Number Info

There was a bit of questions about my oil cooler. It was off one of the newer WRX/STi engines. From the data I have, I know these will be the same from 2002-2005 MY's. 2006-2007 are most likely the same, and possibly 2008+ may also be the same.

Anyway, I put together a list of all the part #'s and a picture from the parts book. I don't recommend you buy all these parts separately, but this should at least give you an idea of all the parts there, and help if you need to buy a few things to make the kit complete.

Is there any reason to use an OEM setup vs. buying a sandwich adaptors, plumbing and a cooler?

Depends on what you're wanting to use the motor/car for. If you're racing/track, I'd probably go for an external cooler to get better cooling. You'd just want to make sure there's a thermostat in there so you don't get too much cooling.

For daily driving, I'd probably go with the stock setup. Better than nothing, and doesn't have the drawback mentioned above with external cooler. Install and forget it for the most part.

Josh, which water pump did you go with? WRX (2.0L) or STi (2.5L) And did you re-use the stock thermostat & housing or have to use WRX/STi.

Just wondering If I can run the WRX pump without flow issues even tho ours is a 2.2L as the STi model is more expensive.

The WRX & turbo legacy water pump with the third nipple for the oil cooler should be the same part #

Thermostat & thermostat housing is fine, you can use the stock stuff.

I am actually using usdm 2.5 sti water pump in my car and it bolted up to my stock thermostat housing plus since I have the oil cooler the extra nipple worked out great. As for the thermostat I would recommend using the oe stat since alot of the aftermarket once like napa only alow about half of the proper amount of flow thru it which could end up causing some overheating issue especially if you use it for track use. Mine overheated when i was just driving the down highway. I know the info might be a little to late but figured I would post my info on the subject. Better late then never i guess
