Question on my automatic Tranny (NEED SOME ADVICE)

Post by Mike03Subaru »

Hey guys so i just purchased my first subie, its a 91 legacy turbo with a ej20g motorswap and auto tranny with about 30k miles on it, my question is, when ever i will be driving the car around and decide to gun it, first gear goes great and onto second but one third gear hits all i hear is my engine revving but it doesn't pull at all until i let off the gas and then it catches, when driving slowly it goes fine but when you really step on it, it doesn't really catch... So i was just wondering if all automatics do this? or if maybe its a tuning issue? and last if there is anyways to get it to always shift right :?:

Thanks guys

Kind of sounds like the clutches are slipping on the 2-3 shift. You can try checking/replacing the trans fluid. It may help, but may just be an issue with the trans.

Yeah, what you really need is a good 5-speed tranny. :-D But seriously, sounds like your tranny might be going out.

Well I would say as long as you're not running a crazy powerful vehicle, any WRX tranny should do.

Here's a link to one guy's swap:
