dumb shifter bushings

Post by lucas »

so i pulled all the crap apart today to change all my shifter bushings but when i finally got the pin out, to take the whole u joint looking four way thing. i noticed mine wasnt like some of the other ones ive see where there is a nut and bolt holding the u joint to the two forks, one from the shifter and the one from the tranny. Mine was like a pressed in pin, and the only way to remove it to put new bushings in was to grind it out and figure out to use a bolt or something. super lame. anyone have comments on why mines. different?

The one you have is the newer joint. You are correct, you either have to grind the pin off to replace the bushings, or replace the joint. Subaru does not sell just the bushings for these newer style joints.

I would keep the newer joint so you can utilize the newer bushings for the shifter lever if you want. Also, if your car came with the newer joint, you won't be able to use the older joint with the newer linkage. Subaru changed the orientation of the linkage piece by 90 degrees.

If you have the new all-in-one joint, then you will have to keep your same shifter, or swap to an old-style shifter assembly.

Since you have the newer style, just buy a new joint and save yourself the trouble. 35047AC030 is the Subaru OEM part number.
