Let's talk Group N mounts and shifters

Post by zagarus »

So I am about to do a 4EAT to 5SPD swap in my 92 Legacy SS. My list of parts I have so far include:

5spd tranny
driveshaft
rear diff (4.11)
all mounting hardware taken from donor car
shifter assembly
Exedy lightweight flywheel
Exedy PP and clutch

Now I've read a lot about the Group N tranny and engine mounts that would seem to be a smart thing to do when I do this swap. So far the only place I've found that has them is rallispec.com

Here is the link to the engine/tranny mounts

http://www.rallispec.com/prod_mount.htm

Part #'s are RST-4100 STi Group N Engine Mount Set $120
RST-4101 STi Group N Gearbox Mount 5MT $75

Is this a reasonable price?

Next is I've heard a 5spd shifter from a wrx bolts right into a legacy

http://www.rallispec.com/prod_trans.htm

Scroll down to STI short throw shift linkage

Part #'s RST-3500 Quick Shift Linkage 5MT $287
RSTL-350 Quick Shift Linkage 5MT Leg. + MY08 Imp. $287

Out of those two options which would be the recommended one and would it work?

thanks for any help to this. I've searched a lot and have found a lot of info on the tranny swap and I'm looking forward to getting it done.

to much $$ IMO. I would make your own "kit" . use a 02-07 wrx shift linkage assembly then buy a short shifter & upgraded rear/pivot/front bushings.

if you do the group N tanny mount, get some tranny cross member bushings too

haha sorry my bad, got the pedal cluster as well, and a MT gauge cluster.

Also with a bit more thinking, seeing as this car is just my winter driver I don't think I need to go all out on the shifter assembly. I could get away with just new bushings and keep the stock legacy assembly.

And i hear its a BAD idea to switch the cluster. It screwes something up. I just kept my auto one. You can't even notice it.
Oh you'll need a speedo cable though.

You don't need the whole speedo cable, just the part that attaches to the transmission.

I didn't have to do anything for my speedo cable. Have you run across my write-up yet?
