Sunroof Rattle
I tried putting up with it because it seems rather inconsequential, but now i've gotten to the point where every time i get in my car i cringe because of the rattle from my run roof. It's more like a flexing or rubbing noise. But anytime i go over a bump, or the road is sort of rough, it makes a constant flexing/rubbing noise. At first i thought it was the trim piece for the roof, but it's more like the rubber gaskets are rubbing on something. Does anyone have any suggestions? so far i've gotten some "rubber wax/conditioner" and conditioned the outside seal as well as using car wax around the hole in the roof where the seal bumps up against the metal. Any assistance would be extremely appreciated!

Re: Sunroof Rattle
I think I have the same problem. Seems to be getting worse. It's more of a squeaking noise though. Every damn bump and corner the thing is squeaking away. Annoying as shit.

my dad said something about a silicone lubricant, but i'm not sure he really understood the problem...

I don't think I understand the problem either lol. I have no idea what is making the squeaking noise. I'm almost positive it wasn't like this when I first started driving it but I'm not quite sure. Maybe from all my crazy driving I've loosened something up.

Re: Sunroof Rattle
Fair enough. short of taking the whole thing out i think i'm stumped. i might go see what kind of lubrication is available. i was listening to it the other night, sometimes it sounds like it's raining and the drops are hitting the roof pretty hard. gah, this thing is a pain in the butt.
Re: Sunroof Rattle
Use some silicone lube and spray it on a cloth then wet the seal. I think what you are hearing is the rubber squeaking around on the metal.

Re: Sunroof Rattle
You may be right. I've noticed the stupid rubber seal that goes around the glass keeps coming off a little and it's sticking out above the roof line and I keep having to push it back in.

Re: Sunroof Rattle
Nice, I'll give that a shot! Thanks!
I wonder if that's what my dad meant...Any suggestions on what kind to get?

Re: Sunroof Rattle
i remember the silicone sprays at local parts stores suck but for some reason the one at nissan seemed the best kept seals wet for the longest.

Re: Sunroof Rattle
i didn't really know what you meant by the nissan one, so i just picked up a random one. In anycase, it seemed to do the trick. It still rattles a little, but i'll prolly give it another go tomorrow. There were three parts that i lubricated. There's a rubber strip underneath the pop up bar for the sunroof, there's the gasket/stripping around the sun roof glass it self (have to put the glass in both positions to be able to get all of it, underneath and the sides), and then there's a rubber strip above the headliner in the back, right below the glass.
Anyways, another pass tomorrow and hopefully that will be that.
Thank you again Ericem! You're a life saver.

Re: Sunroof Rattle
No problem and what I meant was to go to a nissan dealership and ask them for silicone spray. The one they sell is much better I found than most sold at part stores IDK why lol.

Re: Sunroof Rattle
Ahh, gotcha. I got pytrol or something like that. I'll go check with the nissan dealership tomorrow. By the way ericem, did you post way back when about this problem? i was browsing at random and thought i saw a post by you about a crackling noise that your sunroof was making and i felt like an ass for not realizing there was already a thread for it.
Re: Sunroof Rattle

Re: Sunroof Rattle
You're a rattle freak?! NICE! So, while i have your attention on this then, i can't get my glove box to stop rattling. I put a bunch of rubber stoppers along the rim on the box, but no luck. Any suggestions? This probably isn't the right section of the for this... but hell, it's about rattles.
Re: Sunroof Rattle
Hmm, you sure its not the vents? or something else?

Re: Sunroof Rattle
No, not really. lol. all i know is that if i push on the glove box door when it's shut the rattle stops.
Re: Sunroof Rattle
It could be the latch, or a hinge is loose. Or maybe something in the glove box.

Re: Sunroof Rattle
Sometimes it is like a pen hitting the inside of the box, but i took those out and, though less frequent, it still happens pretty often. I'll check the hinges and the latch. i'm not sure what to check on the latch, but i'll give it a go.
Re: Sunroof Rattle
I would just put some white lithium grease on the latch to see if it will fix it, and you don't know unless you try.
