Re: WTB 91-94 Legacy SS Northeast
ive been watching ur posts here and on nasioc. try posting a budget you have. cause what you WANT and WHAT you can afford are in two different ballparks. you want a mint, low mileage RARE SS 5MT for cheap. its not gonna happen. i offered 2 SS's to you and you turned both down. 04.STI on nasioc has a decent car and its got some mods and you turned that down to. the car you WANT is gonna be in the 3500 to 5k range. i have a SS in the 2k-2500 range that runs and drives just fine. yes, its a auto. but you can always do a manual swap and many people on here have done. you need to either get more money, or lower your standards.
sorry for this post but its the truth. youve been bumping the nasioc thread almost everyday. first off its the wrong forum to bump everyday as theres a handful of guys that own them, and if they do. they are all on this site to begin with. your best bet is to keep an eye out in the classifieds on this forum. yes, it may take awhile so be patient. the PERFECT car isnt gonna sell for 500 bucks.

I have to agree with the guy above on finding the legacy ss, ive owned several galant vr-s before having wrxs/stis.. And they were waaay easier to find the legacy ss's imo i bough mine 2 minutes after the guy posted it just bcuz of its background and records since day 1.. Hope you find what your looking for

Thanks for your opinions but theres no way i would spend 5 grand on an SS, anyone who would should have their brain checked out. Also would you buy an SS that the owner said was rallycrossed frequently and currently running rough? Cool car but not what I'm looking for. You're talking to me like I haven't been searching for one for at least a solid year.
Re: WTB 91-94 Legacy SS Northeast
i said 3500-5k because thats the condition SS your looking for. and spending 5k on a SS 5MT with 100k is not unheard of. ive personaly seen the 91 that 04.STI offered you. i dont think you grasp the concept of whats included. as for running rough, its been sitting, so im sure a tune up would smooth the car out. but if your willing to wait for something that wont come along than by all means. keep looking. you still have yet to even post a budget you have. no one here can help you if they dont know what you wanna spend. the way you make your posts out to be is you want a SS 5MT with 50k for 500 bucks. people who own these cars KNOW there worth money because there getting harder to find.

i've a solid offer for my car, it didn't take long, asking $3800... It's not perfect, but it's had lots of love and fresh parts, I agree with sqc151, these cars are getting rarer and more difficult to find and to find any in half good shape, $4k-$5k is expected, mine had some rust, otherwise I'd have definitely listed it for more. If you want to see some ridiculously expensive older cars, check out the 1983-1987 Corolla GTS.. WOW... I wish we had some sort of cartoon to give us that level of notoriety and desire. but we early Legacy lovers enjoy our near anonymous road presence and racing pedigree... :3
I saw this convo possibly heading downhill, so I was hoping to illustrate that talking like we'd be out of our nuggets if we paid a wholesome $5k for a clean Leggy... It hurts feelings... Some of us invest double that in them.. be it purchase of $2k and invest $8k or purchase of $4k and invest $2k... So it's a bit insulting.. HOWEVER, we're an easy to get along with lot, so bygones... are well gone..

We're all car nuts and love our cars, so at times emotions get kicked up. Selling mine- nearly makes me sick, but I know the prospective owner being a member here, will love it and treat it right... You guys should have seen my face when someone said, "It's worth MORE if you part it, you'd have your own parts store!" ... *cough... gag*
I nearly feel bad parting out an old N/A Legacy even...
Anywho, just be realistic about budget, heck, declare your budget even... I'm sure you'll find a range of cars... Be prepared to travel if rust is your enemy.
I'm not trying to hijack the thread, just wish you luck and to say that us Legacy peeps love our cars. As do you, appearing so since you're looking to buy a Legacy SS, rather than a Prius.. *barf* hehe
Maybe edit your first post... and be open to options... like:
examples of what I've seen for $1200 to $2000
-L converted to SS 90% finished
-L with Japanese swap but little bit of rust
-SS needing engine rebuild
-SS auto low miles, body damage
-SS wagon, auto postal car, no rust, lots of dings
-Clean N/A FWD, *great for SS conversion*
-SS, with clean driveline, with 200,000-250,000 miles, body good, bad paint (Florida car)
-Clean body SS, but with +200,000 miles (Was one on craigs last summer in MO, the guy wouldn't budge from 2k)
-SS w/ Fairly Clean body with 150,000 miles bad clutch (saw one of these in KC last year)
What will most likely be tagged $4k+
any SS with less than 100,000 miles
any SS/L with STi swap
any SS/L with more than four prodrive parts...
anything rally prepped and running
anything with current rally log book and up to date
For your money, $2,-$3k is your range, usually need work, minimal toward $4k and more moderate.. axles/clutch toward $2k... Mine was higher, due to the fresh and fully built engine + sweet bolt-ons/upgraded brakes/rebuilt trans/new clutch/new turbo/new cooling system/ and very very clean interior. The rust is what kept me from declaring a $4-$5k car. Honestly I think I priced my car low, but then again, I had 175,XXX miles on the chassis and rust...
I'm not preaching, just sharing... and when you do find your car... enjoy!

Re: WTB 91-94 Legacy SS Northeast
Thanks for the reply Legacy Rally Guy, you raise some very valid points and I understand where you are coming from. What I'd like to spend is $3500 maximum. Was just confused by sqc's post, seemed a little personal and aggressive. I will wait as long as I need to to find the right buy, I am in no rush. It seems words are being put in my mouth but thats behind me, as you said with conversations over something so passionate as an appreciation of a car things can easily go that way. Thanks again, best of luck finding a buyer for your legacy I'm sure someone closer will love to pick it up.
Re: WTB 91-94 Legacy SS Northeast
sorry if you thought my post was personal. i was not in anyway attacking you. ive been watching your threads for awhile and been waiting for you to score an SS. keep up the search and good luck.
Re: WTB 91-94 Legacy SS Northeast
Thanks very much, best of luck in all your projects too.

Re: WTB 91-94 Legacy SS Northeast
I havent, basically because I admittedly don't have the technical know-how or tools to do it. I might have found a touring wagon i have my eye on. It seems you have some knowledge in this area, how much can i expect to pay to swap it to a 5mt?
Re: WTB 91-94 Legacy SS Northeast
this is in your price range and already swapped. id fly out there and drive it back. plus its a cali car... no rust like the northeast.

Cool sounds more reasonable than I had originally thought. I would love to bring you business if I eventually decided to do it, thanks for the info I'll let you know when the time comes!
Re: WTB 91-94 Legacy SS Northeast
He did a great job, no problems so far at all! It was totally worth it, automatics just suck the fun out of driving.

Re: WTB 91-94 Legacy SS Northeast
Cool so Gclark would you mind disclosing your total expenses with the swap? I'm trying to budget it out and dont have a realistic idea of how much $$? Also what other bits did you have to get? dash and stuff?
Re: WTB 91-94 Legacy SS Northeast
Clutch was $325 used off Nasioc. It was a Exedy something or other. More then I wanted to spend, but worth it.
Then the slave cylinder(?) was $70
Then what I payed mike for everything else, so 1200ish. You are going have to make your own shift boot, but I used a Crown Royal bag that I got for free, which came out decent.
No dash pieces needed.
