Mounting depth spec for rear speaker in 92-94 wagon

Post by Bender-san »

I'm not certain if this has been posted, but since I couldn't find a specification I thought I'd share my findings. The maximum mounting depth that I've found for the rear speakers in a 92-94 Legacy wagon is 50mm. The mounting depth on the LR speaker is actually less until you swap the brackets for the power seatbelt control unit (simply remove them and swap their location on the control unit). The limiting factor really is on the RR speaker, but a 1/2 inch spacer should make nearly anything fit. I've yet to see how much modification will need to be done to the rear speaker grill support to facilitate such a large spacer, but I will post an update after the speakers are installed.

I sort of ran into this problem too when I had a TW... ended up covering the bottle of the sheet metal with duct tape. This gave the speaker just enough clearance to not contact the body and short out the system.

The speaker magnet contacting the sheet metal won't cause a system short. It sounds like you had a speaker that was right on the border of fitting properly, anyway. I'm trying to fit a set of Focal 130 CA1 5.25" speakers in the back, which are much too deep to fit without the use of the spacers.
