How much did you sell you Legacy SS for? Fighiting insurance

Post by Smoothinto2nd »

Ya... They think my car is worth $2000. There is one in my area going for $3600 obo. I sent them a bunch of local adds and they said it means nothing to them only the actual purchase value.

So what did you sell your SS for? I'm looking for Rust Free clean original 5 speeds if possible but anything that's clean will do.

If possible any paperwork would be awesome. Almost all info can be blacked out I just need to prove to them the actual resale value for our cars are higher than they are giving me.

PM me too if you don't want to let out what you sold you car for but think you can help.

Thanks guys :/

It will likely only matter to them if the examples you give are in your area, and definitely need paperwork, they won't just take someone's word off a forum.

FWIW I paid $3500 for mine, rust free, original(except the tranny swapped from auto to 5 speed) 135k miles. But I don't think that'll help you at all, paperwork is all at home

I think would totally help me. That's honestly what I think mine was worth. Your will have had a little under 50k fewer miles but there's a big enough jump from $2000 to $3500 that it would back up the adds I sent them. Even if it would get me up to $2700 or something like that, it would at least be a step in the right direction.

I think it's going to be hard to find sales prices in that range. Look at our own classifieds--anything advertized for $3000+ takes months to sell.

9 months ago, I fought my insurance tooth and nail. I got a $2233 settlement for a clean California '93 5-speed SS. My arguements got me a total of $200 more than the initial offer of $2033.

Hopefully you can do better.

Sorry to hear that you're having problems with this.

I bought my 93' AT, 123k-ish, for $1,800. But it also had a salvaged tittle.

I sold a decently prepped 91'SS with WRX tranny, PP6, exhaust, intake, for $1,800.

These cars are so subjective and vary wildy in price. It's going to be hard to get more than blue-book for it unless you have reciepts from large purchases/upgrades.

I'll be happy to make you copies of what I can for my 93' if it'll help you at all. I agree that they are worth more but it's difficult to prove it. You might ask on Nasioc since we're all cheap here anyhow.

I find that most of the $2k SS's are in pretty meh shape, might be sound mechanically but the body and paint are never in very good shape, at least by my standards. It's not too common to find one in nice shape for sale though so the only one I have to go off is mine

Unless you have agreed value insurance good luck. They have to used nada, blue, black books for value.

Liek said above unless you can prove high dollar added items with reciepts then i'd say fight all you want but in the end it's up to them.

Ok I just got off the phone with them. They said if I need proof of two sales in order to change number they've valued my car at.

So ya. If anyone could send me a photo or a copy of a bill of sale, the part of the registration that show's what was paid for the car, or just some sort of paperwork proving you paid or sold your SS for more. I assume pretty much all personal info can be blocked out. Just the price, the vin, date, and State to give a vague reference should be good enough. I just need two!

You might have a better time finding someone on here that just purchased a similar vehicle for the price you are looking for... Dont know how many on here have sold one recently, might find someone who bought one though... hope it helps

I cant believe they wont change the value of your car to a higher value by 1500 dollars and just charge you a higher premium. Stupid of them...

Not to mention that why would you want to pay for full coverage (at least 1k a year or more) for a 14 year old car thats only value lies in the 500 dollar short block if its wrecked? So after 2 years of paying for "Insurance" (I'll rant about my feelings of that another time), you could have bought another legacy. My advice, get liability ONLY and take the extra 500 or more a year and put it in savings for a new car when you wreck your current one. Why give the money to the insurance company???
