02 TMIC into a 94 SS

That spinning thing that makes all of the cool noises. OE and Aftermarket.

02 TMIC into a 94 SS

Post by timebeach »

How hard is it to put a TMIC from a 02 WRX into my 94 SS? And is the TD04 good for my car too? I'm still kinda of new to the whole turbo coming from the N/A world. Thanks for any help!!

Also, is it hard to rebuild a oil leaking turbo or should I just avoid it and buy a good one?

Lots of threads about these...

the older tmic will fit, but not without a lot more effort (pounding in the firewall, etc). the ideal tmic is the wrx 2006 or 2007. lots of people are using the TD04 too. there are also rebuild kits for them.

Thanks BSOD2600. How much better is a TD05 than a TD04 and what's a reasonable price for one?
BTW, I used to be at Ft. Lewis when I was in the Army back in 96-99.

Well to take full advantage of a TD05, you'll need larger injectors, MAF, and EM.... otherwise it's a waste of the $. If you're not up for it all, then best to stick with the TD04, IMO.

I would recommend the TD04 for a good vf11 replacement. Nothing crazy, but noticeable power increase and easy install. I would also recommend the 06/07 TMIC instead of the 02 as BSOD stated. I am running the full revtronix stage 2 set-up, and still fighting to get it running "perfectly".

let get your opinion on this then. A "cheap", somewhat easy but powerful update would be the TD04, 06-07 TMIC and the Y-pipe kit (easiest to find, from e-bay?)? Would I need the 440 injectors and a bigger fuel pump or a piggy ECU to take full advantage of the upgrades? Thanks for the advice. You guys kick ass. I'm new to both the subie and turbo world but this site helps a shitload.

i would recommend getting a walbro fuel pump asap if you plan on upgrading your car in any way. You should be fine with a td04, TMIC, and set an mbc at 13 psi. I have never had good experience with a piggy back so im saving up for a standalone. But with the mods I listed above, you wont NEED engine management. You CAN put 440's in your car without engine management, but with my experience it ran too rich for my liking. I am now running 440's but I have the revtronix stage 2 chip installed and all supporting mods

and the Y-pipe is easy to find, but you have to "make" it. Check out some of the install guides to see what all needs to be done

Thanks again Matt. I'll post some pics of my car (94 SS 4eat) once I finish up some schoolwork. Hard to find time to do anything with work and school. I got her for $1200. New head, fuel pump, basic top end because my friend's daughter put oil in radiator and antifreeze in engine!! It's missing a few of the vacuum hoses on the passenger side of the engine because he broke off. Did the removal of head while car was cold. Thanks again!!
